The first step is always to check the HCL - and the ML 110 is not supported -

Thanks. I used information from this sites:

http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3.5/Whiteboxes_SATA_Controllers_for_ESX_3.5_3i.htm

http://ultimatewhitebox.com/

where they have installed ESXi in this product: HP ML110 G5.

Agli.

Hi,

I installed at least 4 Maschines of the type ML110 G5 with the Esxi 3.5 U3 ... and they where running for quite some time. ( weeks without problems )

Yesterday I installed a ML110 G5 U4 !! and since than everything is different , ( First of all in Order to be able to install the ESXi 4 you have ! to change the settings in the bios form auto to STAT and Enable the RAID ) ( for U3 you have to DISABLE the Raid , in U4 ( as the device ist supported !) you have to ENABLE it.

I went back to the U3 release and gues What everthing works fine ...

If you Google for ML110 G5 Esxi U4 you will find some Information.

So I would say vmware just made some fine changes so that under U4 the ml110 G5 is not any longer usable .... WHY ?! Beats me ? ... There is also the Problem that they "fixed" the RCLI so that write and read is no longer possible , as descript in some blog.

In a Time where XEN Server is offering a wider variety of possiblities that step is in my Eyes not easy to "communicate" ;(
