Question about Licensing

I just pre-ordered Fusion, WOOT! (Finally can get away from Parallels!)

I was wondering how the licensing works. Do I have to buy another license to use Fusion on my MacBook Pro (in addition to the license I just bought for my Mac Pro)? Or is there a portable licensing model where I can use it on a desktop and a laptop as long as I'm not using it at the same time?

I just had to confirm this with legal:

VMware Fusion is licensed per individual user. You may install VMware Fusion on more than one computer, but you cannot use more than one copy of VMware Fusion at the same time (concurrently).

As we get closer to launch, we will post the final end user license agreement that will disclose the complete details.

Hope that answers your questions.

I'm not sure but I personally ordered 2 copies of VMWare Fusion today. I expect I'll be using VM's on my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro at the same time.

Bump.

Another license issue might be how Fusion will work with

the new OS, which will be 64 bit. I would assume that

a Fusion license will work with an updated for 64 bit version

that might come out after 10.5 is released.

Also will VMTN customers will get Fusion licenses?

At the price, I ordered three. One for my MacBook, one for my iMac and one for my next intel Mac. Then, I tend to support, with my money, projects that I believe in. Depending on a number of issues, I may continue to support Parallels as well.

From the FAQ[/url]:

Does VMware Fusion run on Mac OS X Leopard?

Yes, VMware Fusion has experimental support for running on developer releases of Mac OS X Leopard. VMware Fusion will support Mac OS X Leopard officially when it is released[/b].

Support can be a vague term.

When I use VmWare Server, I need separate keys for the

linux and windows install.

If Fusion 64 and Fusion 32 bit required different keys,

then all would not be right with the world.

Yeah, pre-ordered already. I am still waiting to get my money back from Parallels. Since July 2006

I had similar questions. Not that Fusion is expensive, but is the license per-machine or per-household? If it's per-machine, is there any chance of a per-household license (like Apple's family pricing)?

So it's not per individual user, it's per machine if the same user is going to be using it on multiple machines at once. I foresee myself using it on my Mac Pro and my Macbook at the same time, so I was right in purchasing 2 licenses.

I figure I'm still way in the black. I was expecting $200 knowing the original VMWare for Windows version 1.0 was $99 preorder, $300 after that (if I recall correctly). So based on that, I'm still $120 in the black even having ordered 2 copies.

Keep up the good work.

I was also wondering as I had just installed the second key to a boot-able HD on my MacBook instead of to the internal HD.

Can anyone confirm whether this applies today? I want to know whether I can have VMWare on my iMac at home and also on my laptop with only one computer ever in use...

Thanks in advance
