error while creating vmfs datastore on FC disk

I am trying to create a VMFS datastore on FC attached storage.

(VMware ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0, 123629)

When I go to the "Add Storage" tab, I see a bunch of disks.

I select one which says 50GB available.

The wizard tells me that the disk is blank.

Then I give a datastore name and go past the "maximum file size" screen.

When I click "Finish", I get this error:

"Error during the configuration of the host: Failed to update disk partition information".

The release notes indicate that this has been fixed in this particular update.

But it doesn't seem so.

Please help !

I have 2 ESX servers seeing the same set of FC disks.

Both hosts are newly installed and the same problem is seen on both.

I don't have any other ESX systems. So this is the only data available.

Are the hosts licensed? And not running off of the eval mode...click the host, then the configuration tab under licensed features. Ensure you see SAN usage under the ESX server edition section.
