Long loading time XPguest - opensuse 11.1 host

ref: workstation 6.5.1

opensuse 11.1

After compiling the modules using raid3868 tip

(mv /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary_old)

This is the behavior of VMware

1. if I load a VM with opensuse 11 (this is just one of the guests I have available) it loads and runs as when I was using opensuse 11 as host. So in my view working well

2. I I load a VM with XP the intial XP screen comes fast and then takes a long time until the final screen comes and XP loads, like if XP is looking for drivers etc

After it loads it works as before (means OK).

Loading time for XP using opensuse 11 = 43.5 sec

Loading time for XP using opensuse 11.1 = 5min 20sec.

What is the best way to log for the events I described? I tried to start full screen and the whole system froze and the VM did not run any more so I had to make a new one. I will try it again.

I'm sure this is a problem related with the kernel and it may show up also in fedora 10 etc. I'm interesting in solving it becasue is the only thing now is keeping me from upgrade to opensuse 11.1

Happy New Year!

Here extra info:

1. If I removed vmware tools and restarted the system, XP loads very fast 25 seconds. Of course MS reminds you that you have to reactive windows because of the big changes in hardware. So vmware tools in the cause of the long delay.

2. I load XP without vmware tools. After loading it I installed vmware tools. The installation of the tools is not right: stalls for about 4-5 minutes during the SVGA installation. So this may be where the problem is .

3. Starting again XP with the vmware tools the first couple of times froze the whole system and I have to reboot. Eventually it load it after 5 minutes.

I have a nvida gts 8800 and I am using the nvidia drivers. I looked at what I had under opensuse 11 (of course is in the same system dual boot) and the setup is very similar.

kernel 2.6.27.7-9-default

nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-default 177.82_2.6.27.7_9.1-1.1

x11-video-nvidiaG02 177.82-1.1

I should have looked at those log files!.

I attach both one is produced under opensuse 11.0 where everything is working well

The other one is under opensuse 11.1 where I have the problems.

Both use the same VM, the computer is dual boot and all the peripheral are the same.

As I said before without the VMware tools under opensuse 11.1 there is no problem.

Looking at the files the problem seems to be from the usb where I have attached a logitech orbit-af camera.

I removed the camera and try to load XP: all the problems are gone. Now XP works as good as in opensuse 11.0.

As a solution I check out under 'usb controllers' -> 'automatic connect a new usb' and that seems to resolve the problem.

I wonder what has changed under opensuse that modifies this behaviour.

Thxs again for your great help.
