Installed original vmware fusion software to my MacBook and did a download upgrade from website. When virtual machine is open to get to Windows XP, it takes approximately 3 minutes to open. The original version opens Windows in a split second. The download acted the same way on three computers after the download. Any suggestions? Would it be different from a disc installation?
Some people have reported slower boots after upgrading to Fusion 2.0. We resolved most of the causes we know about in 2.0.1, but there may still be ones we don't know about. The downloadable bits are the same as what's on the CD.
Is this 2.0 or 2.0.1?
Was this virtual machine created in Fusion or imported/converted from another source? Is it a Boot Camp virtual machine? Do you have Boot Camp drivers installed?
Where is the slowness occurring? Opening the Virtual Machine Library window? Between opening the virtual machine and login? Between logging in and seeing the desktop?
How are things once the virtual machine is open?
Thanks for your answer/explanation. Boot camp drivers are not installed. Virtual machine is created in Fusion. It is very slow between logging in and seeing the desktop. Once opened it is fine. Just extremely slow opening to begin with. By the way this was 2.0.1
This was 2.0.1. Boot camp drivers are not installed. Virtual machine created in fusion. It is very slow between logging in and seeing desktop. It takes 3 minutes to boot and about 2 minutes to shutdown. Once booted up it is fine. Just extremely slow opening to begin with. It was so frustrating that I have completely deleted 2.0.1 and reinstalled the original version.

You have not stated anywhere in this thread as to what the original version number was. Was it 1.x?
Original version was 1.0
Original version was 1.0
If your using Leopard you should probably upgrade to at least 1.1.0 as there are known issues with 1.0 and Leopard.
I'm not experiencing any problems with 1.0 and Leopard. The problem is with the upgrade 2.0.1
I'm not experiencing any problems with 1.0 and Leopard.
If you're not having any problems with 1.0 that's fine however there are know issues with 1.0 and Leopard and it is recommended that you upgrade to 1.1.0 although you certainly do not have to if you don't want to.
The problem is with the upgrade 2.0.1
I had so many issues with 2.0.0 that I downgraded to 1.1.0 and have not bothered trying 2.0.1 because base on additional issue posted to the forum since its release I wasn't willing to waste any more time with Fusion 2 until VMware get a better handle on the bugs in it.
Thanks for the info. I did not know there were problems with 1.0. I 'll definitely take a look at 1.1.0
Sorry, forgot another standard question: do you have network shares or HGFS shares set up in the guest?
My apologies but I'm not familiar with that. Could you explain? Thanks
Ok I'm with you now. No there are no shared folders.
