vmnic0 on 1st onboard nic

Hi,

till yet we installed esx3.5 on HP585-x, and had no problem with the order of the network interfaces during the installation. vmnic0 and vmnic1 are the onboard nics, vmnic2,3,4,5 are the two pci dualcards.

But since trying to install our first HP380-G5 this order is no longer possible. The pci nics are loaded before the onboard nics and so our first onboard nic is represented by vmnic3 which isn't really nice.

Is there an easy way to force the 1st onboard nic to be vmnic0 (biossettings, slotchange,...)?

Any help would be great!

thanks, Chris

changing the slots might help, otherwise you might consider renaming them in esx.conf.. but I wouldn't do that myself.

hi duncan,

thanks for your answer.

Changing the esx.conf is no option. The installation is scripted and should be as "easy" as possible for more than one hardware.

But it would make hardware installation much more easyer to plug "service console 1 network cable" on "onboard nic 1" which is then vmnic0 during installation.

Handling 5 network cables with different vlans on one server is hard enough anyway. Smiley Wink
