USB 2.0 performance poor, causes hesitation in printing on large format printers

When printing to a large format printer (40"+) or to an engraving laser from Fusion, the printer head hesistates at the end of each pass. When printing directly from a standard windows machine it prints continously. For those machines that have mac drivers, printing directly from the mac also prints continuously.

Any ideas on what's happening with the USB bridge that might be causing this hesitation? It's not just a matter of printing slow, it causes registration errors and in the case of the laser, engraving too deeply into the material.

I am having USB crashes with my CDMA card and with using a WD external HDD. I wonder if this is related. I posted my question and bluescreen in another thread and have yet to hear back.

Fundamentally, there will be a bit more latency when running in a virtual machine as opposed to running natively, since there's another layer to go through. One thing that can help a bit is to plug USB devices directly into the Mac instead of going through a hub.

In case there's something else going on, though, please enable USB debugging (see if you need help) and attach the log.
