Driver errors when adding new disk to 2003 VM (ESX 3.0.2)

I am trying to add new disk to a 2003 server VM with no luck. The VM already has virtual disks which are working fine, and I need to add a couple more.

I have created the virtual disks on the LUN, when I try and create the partition in Disk Manager I get the following error;

Cannot Install this Hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware: Unknown

An error occurred during the installation of the device

The specified service does not exist as an installed service

The VMtools were 'out of date' on the VM, I have upgraded them but not rebooted yet. Would this fix the problem? If so, how come the existing disks work ok?

Or would I need to use specific drivers as per ?

Host: ESX 3.0.2

Guest: 2003 Ent SP1 (SCSI controller type LSI)

Thanks!

Of course a reboot fixed it. Cheers
