Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown - Option is disabled

I'm still perusing other posts and the documentation, but I'm a bit confused as to why the "Properties..." option is unavailable (grayed out) on the Configuration page for my host within VC? I have a single host running ESX Server 3.0.1 (build 32039) and am running VC Server 2.0.2 (build 61426). What did I miss? Thank you in advance for your response.

It may be a rights issue on VC. Can you log directly into the host using the VIC as root and see if you get the same options greyed out?

I'm logging in with an account that has Datacenter Administrator rights. I would think this should be adequate, but I'm wondering if I have to shift to Maintenance Mode to enable this option?

You can try to restart the Management agents , that may fix it.

If you are running 3.0.1, just make sure you see this KB before you restart.

Edit: Did you log into the HOST itself to see if the option was greyed out?

I restarted the services and encountered no errors, but the Properties... selection under the Configuration tab for the host is still grey and cannot be selected. I access the Web UI for the host, but didn't see this configuration option within the console. Do you think I may have to be in Maintenance Mode within VC to configure this option? Thank you.

To restate what Troy was saying: I

Instead of using the web UI use the Vitual Infrastructure Client. Type the name or IP address of your ESX host in the IP address/ Name field and use the root account credentials of the host for user name and password. Is the option still greyed out when you do this?

Garrett & Troy,

Please excuse my thickheadedness. I couldn't access the host when using the name via VIC, but using the IP address as you suggested worked fine. It looks like I can now configure this setting. Thank you very much.

As a follow-up: Since you can see the particular option normally when using VIC to attach directly to the host but the option is greyed out when using the VC server, this indicates that there is a rights issue with the VC server configuration. This is what Troy was driving at in his first response. I would check perms in the VC server configuration thoroughly.
