When you download VI Perl Toolkit 1.0 Beta 2, after completing a survey you'll be given a choice of downloading:

Yes, go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/viperltoolkit

note - it appears beta2 hasn't been uploaded to sourceforge yet. beta1 will get you off to a good start if you haven't worked with viperltoolkit before... and its easy to update once the next version is released.

It will be available when the product GAs. In the beta process, we have chosen to expose just the windows installer and the virtual appliance.

What's GA mean? and when will that be?

I assume that beta-2 is not really that different from beta-1 in terms of functionality? I am currently developing with beta-1 on Solaris and would like to know that I will not have to do any major changes to my code when I finally get the new version of the toolkit.

Thanks,

Mark

"GA" means "General Availability", in other words the non-beta release (version 1.0). That's expected in a few weeks.

The primary difference between beta 1 and beta 2 is the elimination of a bug that caused some annoying warning messages in beta 1 and the addition of some new utility scripts.

Users of beta 1 or beta 2 should not need to do major changes to use the 1.0 release.

Mark - you say you are developing on Solaris with the Perl VIX toolkit? I was looking around on the site and elsewhere and couldn't quite put together how one uses VIX from anything but Linux and Windows.

All of our automation and backups run from a centralized Solaris system and so using VIX from Solaris is very ideal but I can't sort out how to get even the perl demos to work.. I've only been working on it for a day or so but once I got to using 'BrandZ' Linux binary emulation within Solaris Zones as a solution I figured I should check the discussion groups at VMWare Smiley Happy

If anyone knows how to get the perl VIX APIs (for VMware Server) working on Solaris please let me know.

Thanks,

Jeremy
