Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this cpu is not compatible with 64-bit mode.

Vmware Workstation 6.5 installed on vista ultimate 32bit, attempting to install vista64 as guest and recieve the following error.

File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe

Status: 0x000035a

Info: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this cpu is not compatible with 64-bit mode.

I have run the which says my cpu will support 64-bit mode. Also, in the BIOS I have enabled Virtuization and rebooted system, same error

I did successfully install Ubuntu 32-bit, without a hitch.

If anyone has some ideas I would be very grateful

Thx

I have Vmware Workstation 6.5 installed on vista business 32bit, attempting to install windows small business server 2008 std as guest and recieve the same error.

File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe

Status: 0x000035a

Info: Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this cpu is not compatible with 64-bit mode.

I have also run the http://www.vmware.com/download/server/drivers_tools.html which says my cpu will support 64-bit mode. There is no VT setable option in my BIOS A14 (latest as of 28/1/09) for a Dell Latitude D830 Core2 Duo.

If anyone has some ideas I would be very grateful

On a Dell platform, without VT support in the BIOS enabled, you cannot install a 64-bit guest on VMWare workstation.

I am using a Dell Optiplex 755 and it has two Virtual Technology options (disabled by default) in the BIOS. I have a Windows 2008 server (x64) installed on this system and I use VMWare v6.51 for QA testing.

When I first tried to install a 64-bit guest client, I got the same error. I looked in the BIOS (after talking with some of my collegues) and found two VT options, both disabled. I enabled both and when I tried again, the 64-bit guest installed.

Just because Dell says that a platform is capable of running a 64-bit OS, doesn't mean that VMWare, installed on that platform, will be able to create the 64-bit guests you want. I went round and round with a T/S person from Dell about this very issue after I tried to do the same thing with a Dell Optiplex 620, that they told me would run a 64-bit OS, only to run into the same issue you did.

And, I tried the latest BIOS upgrade that the Dell TS weenie told me I should try (he couldn't tell whether or not it would update the BIOS with the VT options!) and it did NOT add the VT options I was hoping for.

Anyway, I feel your pain and thought I'd share some of mine!

Good luck.

Brian

I ran into the problems described here and this did the trick for me

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=1008170&sliceId=1

Worked like a charm
