Configure Virtual Serial Port For Windows Virtual Machines On vCenter

You can use serial ports to send debugging information from a server virtual machine to an application or a process running on the client virtual machine.

In this, I have relayed a text message from Windows 2008 machine to the Windows Clone machine using Named Pipe Serial port.

Couple of considerations here:

1. The VM has to be Powered OFF during the configuration.

2. The VMs configured with Named Pipe has to reside on the same host. If you have DRS configured on the cluster then you can create a VM-VM Affinity rules so that these two VMs configured for Serial Port always reside on the same host.

3. You can test the configuration by using CMD on the near end and a putty for (Serial Port) on the far end.
