I am planning to upgrade to Snow Leopard and Fusion 2.0.6 and I'm requesting some recommendations. I am currently running Leopard 10.5.8 and Fusion 2.0.5. My intended approach is;

1) Shutdown and backup all VMs

2) Upgrade to Snow Leopard and apply updates (believe 10.6.1 is only one so far)

3) Install Fusion 2.0.6

4) Update VMware Tools in all of my VMs

Is this the recommended sequence or should I consider 2.0.6 first and then Snow Leopard?

Second question is concerning this known issue in the 2.0.6 release notes;

When being installed on a Mac running Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), VMware Fusion does not install MacFUSE

MacFUSE might cause the installer to fail or become non responsive, so the VMware Fusion installation process does not install it by default on a Mac with OS X 10.6.

If I already have MacFUSE installed from my previous 2.0.x Fusion installations is this a non-issue to me (ie, installation of Fusion 2.0.6 will not touch my existing MacFUSE (& NTFS-3G) installation)?

Thanks in advance for your response.

i would also like the answers to gbullman's questions as well before i attempt the upgrade.

This should be good, with the caveat that there was a bug in 2.0.5 Tools (at least for Windows) and updating them will not work -- nothing will happen. You need to uninstall/reinstall them.

I would also suggest a clean Snow Leopard install if possible. We've heard some problems which seem to be related to incorrect permissions or file associations and are probably upgrade-related.

If I already have MacFUSE installed from my previous 2.0.x Fusion installations is this a non-issue to me

If you already have MacFUSE installed, whether on your own or from some previous version of Fusion, it's a non-issue. I'm not sure how MacFUSE plays with a Snow Leopard upgrade.
