Posted by nisserow Apr 26, 2017

FROM THE EDITORS VIRTUAL DESK
Hi everyone, this week's newsletter I want to focus on  really great article that has just been posted to our VMware TAM Blog. The blog is titled '9 Tools You Should Be Using in Your VMware Environment' and I think is a really important read. As TAMs we are always stressing the importance of being pro-active, this is part of what we do, try and ensure that we foresee potential issues prior to them occuring and find a solution to mitigate them. There are many tools that we use as TAMs and recommend to our customers, this blog post summarizes many of these. Most of these tools are free, some however are not, however ensuring you gain the knowledge  which tools should be used and when they are most appropriate via your TAM is a great step on the way to being more pro-active and creating a more resiliant, well managed environment.

Please take a look at the blog post here and I wish you all a productive week ahead.

FROM THE EDITORS VIRTUAL DESK
Hi everyone, as I am sure most of you are now aware VMware have released an urgent update to certain products to address security issues that have been identified recently. For more information please go here. This is a great time to remind you to engage with your TAM on all security related items on a pro-active basis. One of the really great tools that we run on a quarterly basis is the TAM Customer Success Metrics. These are collected and can easily provide your TAM with a quick view of your current environment and the patch levels of your systems. When there is a critical update such as this one that is released it is then easy for your VMware TAM to identify the systems that require the patch and provide you with the detail and a plan to get it done as efficiently as possible. We take security related issues very seriously at VMware and the TAM program is always trying to be as pro-active as possible in this regard. We also provide updates on our Twitter and Facebook pages so please sign up to these to get an even better view of the VMware updates.

With that I wish you all a fantastic week ahead.

VMware TAM Source 9.08

Posted by nisserow Apr 26, 2017

FROM THE EDITORS VIRTUAL DESK
Hi everyone, welcome to the latest VMware TAM Newsletter. This week I want to provide some really important information on monitoring your environment. My fellow TAM, Jodi Shely, has provided a really useful update that I wanted to share with you on this as well as a number of new "flings" that have just been launched..

We are consistently being asked how to help identify issues before they arise.  These new flings are exactly what I think you may want to consider to help in monitoring your valuable services.

  1. SNMP and Collecting Metrics and sending metrics
  2. New Fling: Email template for VROPS notifications – can be used for alerts for every area – storage, networking, etc.
  3. New Fling: Cluster Rules Manager - It can be operationally challenging to maintain vSphere DRS rules. Cluster Rules Manager (CRM) is a web application which enables users to easily manage & report DRS rules.
  4. New Fling: HCI Benchmark – you can baseline the Hyper-converged Infrastructure
  5. New Fling: IO Insight – help people understand a VM’s Storage I/O behavior!  HUGE!
  6. New Fling: vSphere Compatibility Predictor – scans all connected PSC’s and detects versions of all vCenter Servers and ALL solutions connected to vCenters.
    1. SDDC Discovery Tool – discovers all of the product deployments – holistic view of SDDC deployment

I hope you find these useful. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your TAM for more information, assistance or any other information related to this.
