From the editors virtual desk

Hi everyone, I hope that you had an awesome Easter long weekend and break last week. In Australia we had another short week with Friday being ANZAC day. With a 3 day week it does make it tough to see all my customers and get all of my work done without cheating and working on the weekend.

My travels into the world of ITBM has been slow of late but I am still hoping to get more in depth on this. I have spent quite a bit of time on one of my favourite products however vCops (vCenter Operations) and as usual this product has shown me how good operations management can be when we work with a solution that provides an intelligent way to work with complex and an often dating amount of data. If you are not working with this solution yet I suggest you check it out. There is a version to suit everyone.

Have a great week next week with presumably most things back to normal for most of us with the Easter break over.

VMware Cloud Ops Blog: Configuration Management in the Cloud (http://blogs.vmware.com/cloudops/?p=877)by Kai Holthaus “The Cloud” is one of the biggest paradigm shifts in the IT world. Instead of provisioning physical hardware in a physical data center and then managing applications running on the physical hardware, virtualization has allowed IT organizations to decouple logical infrastructure from physical infrastructure, and thereby deliver new-found flexibility to provide and manage value-add services. Additionally, IT organizations can now provision the cloud infrastructure itself, along with the…

Completely Dismissing the FUD against Nutanix! Network connection lost after vCSA restore (http://www.vmguru.nl/wordpress/?p=12300)Today we encountered a strange error after restoring a vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) in our vCloud Director environment. You would expect that a restore of a virtual machine would return it to its original state at the time of the back-up.  As it turns out this is not the case when restoring a vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA), vSphere Data Protection (VDP) Appliance or vSphere Management Assistant (vMA). The first thing we noticed was that it took a very long time (10 minutes) for the vCenter Server…

VMware vSphere 5.5 Update 1 NFS disconnects (http://www.vmguru.nl/wordpress/?p=12275)A new issue has been discovered with vSphere 5.5 Update 1 that is related to loss of connection of NFS based datastores. The result is an All Paths Down (APD) of the NFS datastores meaning that vSphere loses connection to the virtual machine files and/or the virtual machines will not be able to do any IO to the datastore. This will result in a BSOD for Windows virtual machine and read-only filesystems for Linux guests. Last friday we encountered this ourselves and already got the confirmation from VMware…
