Hi. Have you rebooted your host OS recently? The VMware Authorization Service can take several minutes to start after you reboot (Windows lets you log in and start using the machine before it's done starting services).

If you go to Computer Management, and then to the list of Services, and find VMware Authorization Service, is it listed as stopped? If you start it, does it start correctly, and are you then able to run virtual machines?

I had the same problem with Authorization Service wich listed above.
I try to fix it as you wrote, but when I try to start Authorization Service manually he didn't want to start! Next error occured: Windows could not start the VMware Authorization Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 6000002.
Could you help me?

Same problem here.
It worked immediatley after installation. After rebooting the PC, it gives the error.
I use vMWare 6,0 on Vista...

Hi, I had this problem - I'd been playing around with my firewall and ended up blocking the VMware Authorisation Service (not on purpose)...I changed this to unblock and restarted the service and now VMware all go again.

I'm also running Windows Vista / VMware 6.0 and had this problem.
I had a popup from my firewall asking whether to allow VMWare Authorization Service to run. I said Yes, but then found the Authorization Service wasn't running.
To correct this I did Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services,
clicked on VMware Authorization Service in the list then click the Start link on the left.
Worked okay after that.

I had this problem with VMware workstation 5 and 6.
I found this thread usefull:
http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=183973

So, To solve this I had to put the local user __vmware_user__ in the local administrators group.

Thanks for pointing out that other thread, don Sjon.

Nobody ever replied to my question in that thread, so I'll repeat it here (slightly abusing forum etiquette, hopefully for the greater good).

To everyone having this issue:

Did you log into the Host as a Local Administrator when first installing Workstation, rather than logging in with a Domain ID?

I tried both in the past, but it didn't resolve the problem for me.

on Monday I will retry it, just to be sure.

today i tried 4 installs on 4 test PC's,
2: local admin
2: domain admin

to my suprise, this time, 3 of the 4 worked, but 1 didn't.
the 1 that didn't was installed via a domain admin account.
(and it was installed via the extracted msi)
