Is there a way to repair a broken virtual disk? Here is the scenario:

* Now Fusion can't open the disk because the original disk has been modified

I still have the two snapshot disk images, but the vmsn files no longer exist.

Thanks,

Michael

What is your goal? To save the snapshots and base disk or just the base disk? If you what you suspect is true and the base vmdk is modified, your snapshots are automatically invalid.

Do you have a backup of the VMDK or snapshots anywhere?

Does any version of the VMDK boot under Workstation 6 in non-persistent mode?

Have you tried to mount your VMDK under Windows with VMware's Disk Mount utility?

If none of these work, you may have to resign that you may have lost the disk due to lack of disk space beta testing both WS6 and Fusion.

From looking at a few other posts, it is possible to modify the files so that the difference disks will still work.

Do you mean it's possible to doctor the files so that VMware doesn't complain? Yes, I'm sure that is possible but it doesn't mean you've achieved the level of integrity you're looking for. In other words, "work" is very broadly used here.

that the snapshot disks are still valid if I can recreate the snapshot files

Are you planning on substituting one set of .vmsn files with linked disks from different set of changes to a base disk? Good luck!
