i'm running a similar setup to yours except i'm using iSCSI HBAs and my array is configured for Raid 50. your results are a little slower than mine. what kind of switches are you using? i'm assuming your are running gigabit?

Running Gb. Switches are Cisco 3750's, and the NICs on the Servers are HP NC380T (Broadcom 5708C), dual-port. There's 2 NIC ports on two separate cards configured for the iSCSI connection.

We're only starting to configure our ESX servers, and are rebuilding them tonights. Tomorrow I'll try running the tests again on a fresh VM with nothing else running to see how it fares.

i see you are running 3.0.2. just putting this out there...there is a large thread about slow response times over the SC network. wondering if this is impacting you because you're using the software initiator.

do you have a 3.0.1 box to try your test on?

here is the latency thread

Thanks for the point out doubleH. Read through the posts, and from what people have experience, it's only slowed access to their service console and SMB shares, and not had any impact on the performance of their VMs or iSCSI. My co-worker talked with EQL support today about the hw HBAs, switch configs, etc. and we're should be setting up the new environment on 3.0.2 later today. I'll run the tests again when that's done and post back the results.

Yeah looks pretty good. Initialy I coudlnt get more then 200 iops at any setting, took me a while to find there was a bad gbic on the FC switch.

Sure makes the traditional SAN's look bad, concidering that the SANmelody server is also doing AIM replication over IP, and will be doing this interstate eventually for DR purposes.

Just setting up that kind of replication using EMC/Hitachi etc would have cost us more thatn the datacore software alone.

I'll post up the results from the other environment we are building when its ready ( two HDS ams 500 with SanMelody ontop)

By the way there was no other load on the SAN during that test

Running 2 x 1Gb IBM NetXtreme 1000 T back to a gigabit Dell PowerConnect 6024 switch. Why am I getting such bad performance?

I'm not sure whether the DEll Gb switch is the best
for iscsi.

Any comment as to what switch should be used for iSCSI? We want to use two switches for HA, but with just two VMW boxes, and two SAN boxes, we won't exceed 8 Gb ports on either. The Dell switches are cheap, but if there is a better/faster option for not much more I'd love to hear it.
