Traditionally on my ESX 2.5.x farm with Virtual Center 1.x I simply left Virtual Center on as a VM. This has worked flawlessly over the years so all was well.
As I read more about the new features in Virtual Center 2.x with VI3, it seems apparent that the need for this box to be physical is going to keep growing, so I think it's a good time as any to start planning now instead of waiting for the roadblock to hit.
So the question is: how easy is it to migrate to a new licenses server? In theory I can simply point my esx hosts to the new license server I build and have that said server use the same .lic file, but I didn't know if anyone had any words of warning or advice? Only obvious one I can think of is not to run both VC servers on the same DB backend at the same time. Aside form that, are there any risks of VMs shutting down or is this pretty safe to do?
