I guess only if a user has a local account on the esx - and doesn't know the root account - they are not going to get very far with web-access. But what is the simplest way of disabling it - so use get no responses whatsoever from this service...

and another thing - is it me or is web-access a bit on slow side...???

Regards
Mike

Hi Mike,

Have you tried /etc/init.d/vmware-webAccess stop ?

If that doesn't work you could disable CIMHttpServer and CIMHttpsServer services in the firewall, not sure whether this would affect the VI client though, haven't tried it.

And yes, you're right, the web access is a bit on the slow side....but then it's running on Tomcat, so what did you expect? ;)

Regards,

Alex

Yep, it's in chkconfig.

chkconfig vmware-webAccess off

Hi Mike,

An lsof-i shows that it's vmware-hostd that's listening on ports 80/443. Not sure how you can disable them as you I believe vmware-hostd is required? Perhaps try disallowing the CIMhttp and CIMhttps services through the ESX firewall?

Alex

when disabling the CIMHttpServer and CIMHttpsServer nothing changes, because CIM is using other ports.

look at here: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=53800&tstart=120

Hi Mike,

Yes, you should just be able to replace the index page on the server with your own page.

It's located at /var/lib/vmware/hostd/docroot/index.html.

Alex
