This isn't a virtual appliance at all!

This is their not so clever means of getting your name/info for (what I assume is the marketing department) their records.

Their "Ipanto Lite Freeware" isn't, it's use of THEIR webportal. It has nothing to do with VMWare or freeware.

Two pet peeves:

popup window doesn't render right in Firefox (worked well in IE7).

and I've filled out the form but still waiting on the email with the download link.

I have followed the link twice now and filled out the form twice, but as of yet I have not received a link to download a appliance? (I have checked my email filter.)

It seems not to be available any more anywhere (PM if you really want it)

The appliance was made for Workstation (hence the 32Gb disk that in Workstation is not a problem), but works fine on ESX server (the free part of it) after editing the MAC address to 005056112233

Anybody out there knows how to backup its database?

Also as it has no tools installed I see no way to shutdown clean
