Have you tried the web client? Quite a bit improved over the previous version - although the feature set is not complete. I think if they can get a convergence of features between the web client and Windows clients there is no need for other ports.

...because .net is the current buzzword for "we're so cool and using the latest and greatest technology"?

Just a little more to add to the fire...

Figured ok there is no linux client for VI3. Fine I'll create all my vm's using the windows client and manage them with firefox, but of course the plugin fails to install for firefox.

So, let's move on to idea number 2. Let's just install a windows vm on my linux laptop and mange everything from there. Sounds great. Install the VMWorkstation only when it gets to building the vmmon module for the kernel wouldn't you know it, it fails to install, of course I know I'm using something totally crazy and I couldn't possibly expect it to work. It is only the standard SUSE Enterprise Desktop. I mean gee wiz you'd think that VMWare would be sure that their crap works for the Enterprise products.

I've got two little words for you VMWare "This Sucks!!!". I can't imagine how many customers you are going to lose over this little f*** up.

We need a VI3 or ESX remote console tool for linux.

When working on a customization to a new distro, we have configuration management and editors open on a Linux desktop. We then need to test the build on a VM. Currently that means you need to fire up a RDP/ICA session to a windows box just to open the VI3 client to connect back to the Linux VM.

Please provide a client to connect to a VM under X windows for Linux.

VMware SR 273484.

I encourage all of you to submit an SR. I filed mine under System Management, as it is something that should already exist and is a problem to not have this client available.

Thought I'll throw my voice in as well:

VMWare, please create a VirtualCentre Server and Virtual Infrastructure Client for the Linux Operating System.

I was completely astonished that there was not a linux client. Does not need to be as fancy as the windows one, but would be great to have one for linux.

I had to actually create a XP vm on my workstation just so I could administer out ESX3 servers.
