This is going to sound like a stupid question but I am completely new to configuring Linux.
I've been trying to learn how to install new programs and starting with OpenOffice. I know the primary account is "vmware"/"vmware" but logging in as that user does not allow me to use apt-get and gives me a couple of "unable to lock ..." errors and asks me if I am root. When I use the "$su root" command, the passwords - "root", "vmware" or "xubuntu" do not work for me.
Please help me out here and tell me how I can install programs. Thanks!
