I downloaded opera9:
opera_9-0-20060616.5shared-qt_en.i386.deb

It looks that I can't install in the system as there is not the packaging manager installed.
Is this correct or I'm missing something else?

Thanks to the Author (Rainer Finck) that answered very fast to my question I solved the problem:

Just open a Konsole window and type:
sudo dpkg -i opera_9-0-20060616.5shared-qt_en.i386.deb

(FYI, this will replace Opera 8.54, but for me is ok)

Can't IE use it's standard network address notation, like this?
"\\ComputerNameOrIP\ShareName\SpecificFile.htm"

(If not, I guess it must be a limitation of using WINE/Linux.)

# Via virtual network (does not work with Internet Explorer).
Type "smb://<Computer name or IP Address of the host
computer>/<Path to the network share with the HTML files>"
into the Location bar."

cheers!

A warning dialog is shown when opening Opera 8.54. Pressing OK does open the browser fine though:

"Plug-ins

Plug-ins will not work properly.
Check your installation.

Could not start plug-in executable 'operamotifwrapper'.
/usr/lib/opera/plugins/operamotifwrapper-3
Please install Motif.

/usr/lib/opera/plugins

[]Do not show this dialog again [Close]"

I cannot "suspend" the running VM, by "exiting" the Player window. I'm forced to shut down the guest machine. This would be a nice ability. Otherwise, VERY USEFUL appliance, thanks!

(Using VMware Player 1.0 on Win2000.)

I fixed the bug that the appliance cannot be suspended if you use VMware Player.

Visit http://mba-update.colinfinck.de with any browser (but not Lynx) for instructions on how to update your appliance, so the bug will be fixed.

Thanks for the fix Rainer! This browser appliance is very fast and is exactly what I need. Definitely one of the best virtual machines one this site.

This is a really nice appliance but I noticed that conditional comments and PNG transparency don't work in IE (this is apparently a bug in IEs4Linux). Supposedly the latest beta version of IEs4Linux has fixed the conditional comments problem. Should I be able to just install the latest version of IEs4Linux in this appliance? Or will there be an update soon for this appliance?

I'm not sure who wrote the program, but I know that whoever is responsible for the website allowing me to download it has rendered it USELESS! If I can't download it, it might as well not exist. Is it a "virtual appliance" because it only exists as the subject of these comments and descriptions? It'll be nice to try if the site ever get's the problem working/even cares. But, by then I'll probably have forgotten this site exists and be using someone else's program or have written my own. Two hours of wasting your time can really put ya into a bad mood--maybe that's what this virtual appliance is supposed to do???
