Hi

I installed this and it works quite well. The english is poor and some words need
translating because I'm not sure what they mean.

Also:
the root password does not seem to work
the instructions do not tell you that the admin login name is root. I assumed admin or administrator and only later tried root :)

The management interface at first seems a bit cockeyed and non-intuitive - however after finding a few things I think it is still non-intuitive but is not cockeyed. It could do with some doco or more links to get to places.

For example - to add a domain you need to select an administrator first. That makes sense if you are managing multiple organisations. however for the
super superuser it makes sense to be able to see a summary of all domains
etc.

overall a great effort.

( help with the root password (mitea_test does not work) would be appreciated)

Hi,

I agree with your views on this product, but its a damn good spam defender!

hehe anyway, your question about the root password, I had the same issue. I think you will find that your keyboard configuration is differen't to that of the VM's so as i found the root password on your keyboard will not be mitea_test it will be: mitea?test

Try it, I think it should work then :-)

Hope it helps!

I've installed this product and it works perfectly for me. I love the fact that I can have it deliver mail to multiple domains with seperate relay servers. It has been catching all spam and viruses that it has seen.

Is there any locations that this is available for download? It doesn't appear that it's being seeded at the time.

Best Regards,
Jeff

A question for the creator of the Mitea maildefender...
How commited are you to keeping this system up to date...? security updates/bugfixes/new features etc etc..

Many thanks...!

I can see the cron job that updates virus definitions. However, are any other spam updates going on? I don't see any cron job that update spamassassin rules (i.e. Rules du Jour).

Also, is there a plan to implement a bayesian filter? Or the ability to send mail that PASSED (but was SPAM), to Razor/Pyzor? We do get some mail that passes through, however, it is definitely SPAM, and we don't know what to do to prevent future occurances.

Other than that - this is an excellent solution. So far, it's doing as great a job as the Barracuda hardware solution we have in place.

To change the keymap to something else, login as root:
user - root
pass - mitea_test
(you might need to type in mitea?test due to the keymapping - type in the password at the username prompt so you can see what you're typing).

Once logged in, type in:
dpkg-reconfigure console-data
choose "Select keymap from arch list"
and then follow along.... qwerty -> standard -> US American -> standard
Or, select whatever type of keymapping you prefer...

I have an e-mail server and haven't yet installed this VM. Is it painless to direct incoming mail to the Mitea MailDefender, then have it forward to a separate mail server? One of the earlier comments has me a bit concerned.

The best way to set this up would be:

Adjust your MX record for the domain to point to the Mitea Maildefender VM.

On Mitea, you create domains, and a transport target (which is the IP/host of the target mail server). Once Mitea scans and processes the mail, depending on how your filtering is setup (default is that ONLY non-SPAM gets forwarded), it will be passed along to the mail transport.

Mitea has 3 levels of spam:
Non-SPAM
Possible SPAM
Definite SPAM

By default, only the Non-SPAM (messages with a green light) will be forwarded. However, you can adjust the rules, and even the scoring. These can also be adjusted by recipient (setup users WITHIN a domain, not via the /admin).
