What does the appliance do and what unique value does it provide to the intended audience:
Very limited intended audience, but looks to provide a reasonably extensive feature set.

Innovative use of virtualization technology:
none.

Size of the appliance relative to functionality and performance:
Seems to have been unnecessarily built as a full desktop install rather then an appliance. Close to 1GB is far too large for a small collection of web based services.

Comments:
This looks to be a promising and beneficial appliance, however I would suggest that the appliance be rebuilt as a sub 100MB appliance without the unneeded desktop environment.

The documentation looks great, but the user guide should be separated from the how to build guide. A lot of work has gone into documenting this appliance.

Note : This review is based only on the appliance description, not on the actual appliance

The audience does appear limited but the benefits are great to the whole worl population. Anyone who has seen a doctor is the beneficaiary of this application - that would include most of the world population.
This appliance can help "computerize" a very important but primitive industry - healthcare.
The appliance has attempted to make the overly complex installation of openemr a no brainer for most people (esp doctors) and enormously lowered the barriers to entry. A reasonably computer literate doctor can take this on and be up and running in a few minutes.
Without the appliance it would take hours to configure the various Open source components that comprise the openemr solution including
Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Perl, PHP, Sql-ledger with hooks from one to the other - bootm line it was a nightmarish balancing act.

For the "torrent-challenged", appliance can also be directly downloaded from SourceForge at: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=167832

The default root password has expired. The Online Appliance Manual at http://www.bradymd.com/appliance is updated, and shows you how to set a new root password (don't worry, it's very easy). It's in Appendix B.

Seriously dredd, do you just copy that same complaint and paste it into these things? Not everything NEEDS to be sub 100 meg, sure it will be easier to download, but unless it's a firewall or tiny appliance, there is room for larger appliances.
