Hi,

I'm sorry but I can't understand the linked post, but if I'm right you are asking why the desktop are different.

It's simply because on Workstation 8.0.3 Fedora 17 can start the new Gnome 3 interface, on vSphere 4.1 it can be started and so Fedora fail back to the "compatibility mode".
