Hello,
I'm tyring to build a home server and I need you to help me with your recommendations about motherboards that support (VMDirectPath I/O Pass-Through).
I came accross this mother board (ASUS PT6): http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1366/P6T/
Which was mentioned in this link: http://networkingbunny.co.uk/documents/vmdirectpath
But yet I need confirmation if it supports (VMDirectPath I/O Pass-Through).
Please guys, I'm newbie and I want to start building a server with a motherboard that supports VMWARE because I'm buying this motherboard for VMWARE usuage, and I don't want to spend money on the wrong mother board.
Please make me suggestions from your experience on either ASUS or GIGABYTE motherboards.
I'll be waiting for your replay,
Please this is pretty urgent.
Thank you all in advance.
The home lab server I purchased in this post supports all of the VMware related technologies.

Hello Chris,
This is amazing build, I really loved it!!!
Would you please suggest me any kind of ASUS or GIGABYTE motherboards? And please choose me a compatible i7 quad core processor with the model of ram that works for it. I know I ask too much, but I'm just a newbie and I would love to gain your help and learn from your experience. It is just that I think Intel Xeon is too much for me, maybe... what do you think?
Thanks in advance,
Much respect.
Please check if this Link helps you..
Robert has a good post using more desktop-grade equipment. I believe his CPU was an i7 inside of a Shuttle barebones.

Thank you for your replay. I've checked this website before and it doesn't specify anything about ESXI 5.0.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks again.
Hello Chris,
I don't know, but I just gave it a second thought and I think I'd go for Xeon.
My over all goal is a motherboard that supports (VMDirectPath IO Pass-Through). Do you have any motherboard model that would just work with your Intel Xeon E3-1230 suggestion? I mean from the models of ASUS and Gigabyte, and in the same time would still be able to stay compatible with (VMDirectPath IO Pass-Through)?
I've done a little research, and I came accross this Intel Xeon X3470. Do you also recommend it? I don't know why it is more expensive than your Xeon E3-1230?
Please do replay me,
And thanks in advance Chris.
In much simpler question.... Chris, I want your system exactely as it is but with different motherboard like ASUS or GIGABYTE.... my friends recommended that for me, but I'm not sure which motherboard of this model will work with Xeon E3-1230... and in the same time will still support (VMDirectPath I/O Pass-Through) and all VMWARE Technologies as you told me.
Should I pay attention to the motherboard that much?
Please confirm, and help me. I know I ask too much, but it is just because I want to learn all about VMWARE in my home lap, so bad.
Thank you a lot in advance.
