Look before any you start complaining - the F is extremely light for what vmware has done with this product. Personally I should be suing them for waisted time - too much marketing hype about the value of the product but then when you try to use it its worthless at least just say up front so that we can move one to something elese and don't waist our time.
Know to the basics - the vmplayer 4.0.2 loads my CentOs just fine but the window can not be resized without the installation of the tools. When you try to clicek on the vmware tools installation you get a message that it can't connect or find the sever. Alll documentations on tool install points to iso files which are located where?
Please note the messages below - I know the product is free and not supported but if you are not going to provide the critically needed tools just say so when someone goes to donwload it - that all I'm asking is this really too much? On the other hand since you are not providing this information my thought's go the point that you are trying to get me fustrated enough to give up and purchase workstation - hence you after the time investment I'm might as well give up and pay up instead of knowing that I need to payup upfront.

I would also like to know the answer to this. I know that the VM Workstation 8.02 installer contains and installs the tools ISO's, but I don't want to have to download, install, and then remove a 500MB file just to get them (assuming they are the same ones which can be used with VM Player).
Hi sotiris1 , please try to install from another media or ISO .It seems that media you are using not reading properly .
We're looking into the problem. We absolutely intend for Tools for Player to be available.
It would seem you didn't read my posting. I'm saying where the F'ing is the tools iso for vmplayer - when you click on the player software software to install the tools its complains that it can't contact the server therefore the default address in the player preferences is either wrong or their is nothing there - if you want to send me the default address to double check I would be happy to do so - but please first verify that the software is present in that location.
I don't have have the ISO of the tools so where do I get it - this not a media issue.
I have the same problem. You guys have really F'd up this product.
Amen, At first I thought it might be a error receiving the ISO files via my firewall but after checking that, I attempted to connect to the website: https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds directly, without success. Is there an FTP site? I would like use the tools and update my vm machines. Maybe in the future, these "updates" should just improve upon the files necessary, an not replace the entire program and remove previously working packages. Just saying.
Thanks Sakibpavel: However, I already have 4.0.2 which is where your link refers. This link includes the problem program which does not include the vmtools iso files. Which is what I need. I am unable to "update" the 4.0.2 program and individual vm folders because I am unable to receive the download via https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds . Will there be a "corrected" update improving 4.0.2 to include the vmware tools ISO files?
Sigh...
If you would read, about 6 replies above yours is a reply from a VMware employee stating that they are aware of this issue and are working on it!
In the meantime you can use one of the workarounds discussed already in the dozen or so threads for this issue in this forum.
I don't understand - you send a download link to the player which I have already installed and it works except for resizing of Linux clients which requires the player tools
This is my frustration exactly.
So according to your logic - lookin into the problem means what exactly?
Do they have the tools or not? no clear indication based on vmwares response.
If they have the tools why can't they simply post them? Is their web system so convoluted they can't figure out how to upload the file?
A good excuse can be - the person that was posting these tools quit and we are waiting to hire a replacement - ok if that was the case I can accept the excuse, or maybe the dog ate the tools.

It means that Tools for Player are supposed to be available but aren't, and we're trying to fix the problem.

The Player Tools are the same as the Workstation Tools. So yes, the Tools exist.

Actually, it is sort of like that. There are a bunch of new people who didn't quite understand what the release process was supposed to be.

Well, if there's some manager at VMware who thinks this is a winning strategy, I suggest he read up on Pyrrhus.

A little of the classics never hurt anybody.
Just curious. Are there "new people" that are also involved in the QA for WS 8 asa well as Player. . There does seem to be increasing regressions with each "update". I'm not the only one posting this stuff as the company reps on this group well know. As for this subject of a complete tools ISO I know it exists - since I've downloaded it through the partner channel.

In VMware's defense, they have acknowledged that WS8/P4 is a complete re-write, thus the dropping of 32-bit host processor support. In the long run I like that strategy, as the new engine does seem to work better, at least for me. If you've got a new development tree, though, such regressions are inevitable. You just have to believe things will be better in the long run. If it's a concern, there's always WS7/P3.
But to lose the release functionality between Player 4.0.1 and 4.0.2? Well, that's just carelessness, if you ask me.
James, thanks for explanation - as I mentioned I can accept a reasonable explanation like this - will wait until their posed then.
