Hello Everyone,

I've recently installed the VMWare server and keep running into problems adding virtual machines. The problem occur after the actual creation of the machine and trying to start it for the first time. So far, I've had problems with trying to add windows 2003 VM's to my server, both for Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition. I ran into similar problems trying to use a win2003 image from VMWare Workstation 4.x that was already configured when trying to move it to the server.

My configuration:
Host: 3.6GHz P4 Dual Core, 4GB of ram, Intel hardware, running windows 2000 Advanced Server (Dell PowerEdge 850)

VM's: Windows 2003 Server, Standard Edition/Enterprise Edition, both tried New VM and using an Existing legacy VM.

Trying to start, VMWare Server errors with 0xc0000412 Unable to Initialize properly.
On the console side I get "Unknown Error" in that case. The VMWare Server application actually crashes and the service stops, I have to restart it manually.

I have also encountered "Unable to add virtual machine to the inventory vmdb error -14: pipe (0x8004010e) while trying to add a new virtual machine.

Any help appreciated

Run the vm-support script and file a beta service request.
http://www.vmware.com/support/services/Beta.html

Running vm-support script on a Windows Host:

1) Open a command prompt.

2) Change to the VMware Server program directory.
C:
cd \Program Files\VMware\VMware Server
If you did not install the program in the default directory, use the appropriate drive letter and substitute the appropriate path in the cd command above.

3) Run the support script.
cscript vm-support.vbs

4)After the script runs, it displays the name of the directory where it has stored its output. Use a file compression utility such as WinZip or PKZIP to zip that directory, then include the zip file with your support request.
