We have a LSI megasas 9240-4i.
ESXi 5 installation CD stop during scan device waiting for magasas_raid and we have to:
Is there a way to replace old driver on ISO CD so we can install ESXi5 directly on LSI controller ?
thx

Welcome to the Community,
if this is a new host installation, you may consider to use vSphere Hypervisor ESXi 5.0 Driver Rollup 1. Please make sure you read the release notes for this package before using it.
Alternatively you could try to create a custom installation image using the vSphere Image Builder

Many Thanks Andrè,
browsing the web I have found the useful stuff.
very easy and quickly to use.
Anyway regarding you first advice to use Rollup, probably, as I downloaded free ISO I'm not entitled to use it:
Vsphere 5.0 Rollup ISO images
Sorry, at the moment you are not authorized to download Vsphere 5.0 Rollup ISO images. You have the following options:
- If you have a valid serial number of Vsphere 5.0 Rollup ISO images and you have not registered it, please register it here, so you can get download access.
- If you want to get more information about Vsphere 5.0 Rollup ISO images, please contact the VMware Sales department per email or telephone 1-877-4-VMWARE.
no other info to quickly understand what or how much.

Hi,
I have tried many ways how to turn LSI 9240-4i RAID controller working on ESXi 5, but it still doesn't work for me.
Last install image of ESXi is 5.0 Update 1, where should be up-to-date drivers, supporting LSI 9240-4i natively. When installing it, it stucks at "megaraid_sas", so no difference in compare to the ESXi 5.0 ISO.
I have also followed a steps proposed in this thread: install ESXi without the controller, than "esxcli software vib install --viburl http://www.cuebitch.com/vmware/scsi-megaraid-sas-5.34-1vmw.500.0.0.406165.x86_64.vib" which has actually downgraded inbox driver to an older version. When puting the controller back, it behaves still the same.
So than I cannot understand, how it should be working for you, I am getting a bit rid of it, because I don't see any further step I should do.

Kubicz,
you have to follow the link below and read all the message.
http://v-front.blogspot.it/2011/08/anatomy-of-esxi-50-installation-cd-and.html
and install the new driver using Esxi-customizer as posted back.
I tried with 5.0 pathced and, during setup, waiting 4/5 minutes it was able to start.
Maby with 5.0 rollup1 you dont wait enough.

Hi,
in this thread I found something I haven't tried yet: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1038350129&posted=1#post1038350129
Set PCI ROM Priority in BIOS to "EFI"
I will try it when will be at the server...

Hi, any results on that? Cause I´m thinking about buying a LSI controller now cause the Adaptec 6405E sucks. And I was thinking abot the LSI 9240-4i but according to your post it looks like it sucks as well 😞
Hi Wizz,
yes as posted days ago, I fixed this issue, with esxi 5.0, please read all the 3D and http://v-front.blogspot.it/2011/08/anatomy-of-esxi-50-installation-cd-and.html, as well.
You have to dowonload new drivers LSI_5_34-455140.zip
The you have to patch esxi 5 iso image using
http://v-front.blogspot.com/p/esxi-customizer.html
then you will get a new iso ready to install.
The real issue that alredy I have is how to monitor healt status disks.
