Hello, I have a Server COMPAQ DL 360 started with P2V Boot CD. It's well configured, and reachable across network.
But I want to create the clone this server so, when I launch P2V, I choose server then disk,I see 3 partition (the first in fat, but the others are not reachable) but after P2V is unable to find the well operating system, while the server is in W2K.

I need some help

Thanks.
A newbee ;)

This probably a problem with the boot.ini

For example non-stand names for Windows or Winnt directories which the P2V Assistant expects.

Out of interest what's the layout of the system

Is C:FAT where boot.ini, ntlder, ntdetect.do files are and
D:NTFS where Winnt/Windows is?

Do you have a "service partition" on this server?

Regards
Mike

The first partition is likely to be the boot tools for the server RBSU, etc.

Attach this P2Ved vmdk to your P2V helper as the D Drive - then you can modify the boot.ini.

It probably is trying to boot partition 2 - change it to 1

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

This is providing you did not bring over the hidden partition.

If you put the P2v'd vmdk on a VMFS volume where the helper can access it, shutdown the helper, then go the properties of the helper VM - add new hardware, select hard disk and attach the P2V'd vmdk as an existing disk.

You can boot the helper and run the P2V assistant pointing to an existing attached disk.

Also, check out this article(guide). It will give you more familiarity to the p2v product/process

Is the 2000 instance on dynamic disk? You may want to try recloning with an older version of the P2V boot CD. Also - make sure the RAID controller firmware is the latest on the server to be cloned.

Image that you have restored to new vmdk - make sure OS partition is marked as Active.

Don't you just love P2Ving :-)

And if you look at the disk in windows disk is the boot partition the 1st one or do you still have a small partition in front of it?

If there is a small partition - change your boot.ini to boot from partition 2
