Unable to access Management Network ESXi4

Hello all

I have installed a ESXi 4 on a HP ProLiant ML370G6 in Summer 2009.

It works very fine.

But now I can't connect to the management Network.

Ping failed, vSphere Client connection faild, Test Management Network failed.

I have restart the management agent, without success.

I have physical disconnected the networkcable and connected again - without success.

I have disable one of my nics, so that the second one has the management network - without success.

My VM's are running without any problem.

I can't restart the Host because, if the problem still persist I can't restart the VM's.

Have anybody a solution for that issue?

Best wishes

Martin

On the managements menus, are some nic associated with your management network? Do an IP shows up as management?

You can try entering in unsupported mode (alt+f1, type "unsupported" and then the root password) and do the "esxcfg-vmknic -l" command. Does it show anything?

Hi Marcelo

On the management menues, are two nics associated for the managment network and it shows my static IP adrdess.

In the CL it shows me the vmk0 and also my static IP address.

I have changed the IP address, but no success.

Do you have nic teaming on this 2 nics (and they are both active)?

Try configuring just one of the nics. Also, on the console, try doing a "esxcfg-vswitch -l" to check if the vmk0 is attached to a vSwitch containing this 2 nics.

Hi Marcelo

I have 2 nics. vmk0 and vmk1. vmk1 is as standby configured.

I see in the CL that both nics are attached to the vSwitch.

I have seen on many servers that what you think is NIC0 is not really NIC0 to the host OS.

If you have physical access to the host try unplugging all but the NIC you want as the active management NIC. The use the DCUI to associate only that one to the management network. After that is done, you can add NICs one at a time and use the client to add them to the proper vSwitches.

Hi

I unplugged the networkcable and see at the management menues all nics are disconnected. After that I pluggin the nic 1 and 2.

In the management menues I see that vnic0 and vnic2 are connected. On this nics runns my management network.

So I think that is not the problem.

Also, I checked the port on the switch. My VM's and my iLO are connected on the same Switch and these have no problem.

I realy think, it have to be in ESXi somewhere.
