Hi,

I am new to VMware ESXi, trying to evaluate it now. However, I am unable to burn CD onto either the VM host (CD/DVD writer), or the client machine (CD/DVD writer) .

On the CD/DVD creator window, I am able to select "write to Disc", it show me the virtual CDROM drive, and I can click on "write" , and it goes through the preparation, and eventually write to "complete", but it never automatically eject the CD. Unfortunately after all the work, NOTHING actually written to the CD !!

Does anyone have any clue to this ? or am I not doing the correct thing?

Thanks in advance

regards

PJ

Hello,

The virtual cdrom cannot act as a CD writer device. There are some people who have gotten it to work by using a local to the host SCSI device but not through the client device.

Hello,

As some people have gotten it to work using a ESX host SCSI CD-RW device I would think it is the nature of the connection to the client device and or how SATA/IDE devices work more than anything. Intentional? Probably not. But high priority? Most likely not either.

I would open a Feature Request with your Sales Rep to get this functionality, or perhaps use a USB based CD-RW that plugins into a USB over IP device such as a Keyspan to gain this functionality from within VMs.
