Unusably slow Win7 on MacBook Air w/ Fusion 3.0? posted: Nov 7, 2009 7:10 PM

Hello,

I'm pretty frustrated. I've been a parallels user for a few years and jumped to vmware because it was the first to support win7. I'm using a 2009 MBair 2g ram, 1.86mhz. When I start windows7 the entire machine basically locks up until the login screen and then is basically so choppy from there forward that it is unusable.

Anyone w/ good experience using this setup? or anything I can do? (Other than trading my MBA for a 13" MBP)

Thanks,

Tim

OS X and Windows 7 both want a good chunk of RAM. As a starting point, I would not give more than 1 GB to Windows if you only have 2 GB total. Also check out HOWTO: Ask (and Answer) Questions - more information about your setup would be helpful.

If that doesn't solve the problem, please file a support request (free email support for 18 months with Fusion 3, and it's much easier for us to track than the forums)

Hi Tim

I have MacBookPro (17", 4GB RAM, 2.5Ghz, Snow Leopard) and recently installed VMware Fusion 3 and Windows 7. I don't have any locking up, but frankly did not like the fact that it runs slowly. I allocated 2GB and 2core virtual machine for my WMwareF3, but still it is slow.
I just filed a support ticket and waiting for some help.

what really bothers me that most of the programs I open in Windows7 works slowly as if something else consumes resources and thus nothing left for my program. I haven't seen any crashing or locking, but performance wise it is not really nice. I use MS Visual Studio 2008 for my projects. When I compile a whole project, it is usually 2-3 minutes for compiling and linking. It is almost 12 minutes with WMware + Windows 7.

So far, I have used bootcamp (vista installed) and it works pretty fast , I haven't noticed much performance issue. This is the first time I used a virtualization program like VMware and frankly not happy so far. I hope they will help us out soon.

regards
Bulent
