EVA 4400 VRAID 1 or VRAID 5? posted: Nov 7, 2009 4:41 AM

Hi,

I have the above and would appreciate some input to how others are creating their LUN's.

Currently I am using VRAID 1.

HP recommends VRAID 1 as best practice, but I am beginning to wonder how many other people are doing this as opposed to VRAID 5?

I am getting to the current maximum of our EVA storage, and if I ask for some more disks, the inevitable questions are going to come, such as dropping the RAID level to VRAID 5 to free up some disk space (thus saving money - which is a valid point).

We do vraid 5 for all OS and APP volumes. Depending on the type of i/o we do some vraid1 on sql data-logs-tempdb volumes.

750GB vr5 OS Volume (10x50G OS only with room for snapshots)
750 GB vr5 APPS Volume (10x50GB for applications)
