I'd like to get some input and/or documentation that outlines the best practices to scale the configuration of ESXi swap files.

Scenario: 16 ESXi hosts

Options that I see:

1) Configure all the ESXi host swap files on one dedicated datastore
2) Spread the ESXi host swap files across all available datastores
3) Configure all the ESXi host swap files on one datastore with other VMs

Which is the best option and what have others done? Does swap files require Tier I storage or can we get away with Tier II or Tier III storage?

There are a lot of assumptions here but I'd like to evaluate the best option. Thanks!

What do you mean with ESXi host swap?!

Do you mean the swap for each VM?
In this case the best solution is leave with the VM, unless you have NFS datastore (in this case there are different approach).
