I LOVED FUSION 2.0 - I ranted about it to 100's of people. Best thing since sliced bread is what I used to say.

Now I upgraded to Fusion 3 and it's TERRIBLE. Performance is a joke. I use this in my daily work and if I'm lucky it still works. I can't rely on it now for my demonstrations. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Being a user of Fusion 2 since it was released, I can say I rated the s/w as a 9 or 10 for enterprise use. Now I rate it as a 3.

I will be doing a Video this weekend of how bad it is and will post it online. Since no one from VMware seems to bother to read these forums or comment. I suggest they see what people said about united Airlines when THEY didn't listen...

It has been reported that Apple have released a new beta for their Snow
Leopard software, which will address performance issues found in
relation to VMWare, iMacs, Apple TV and much more.

I have been attempting to run the following system:

iMac, 2.4GHz, 4MB, OSX 10.6.1 . . . . Fusion 3.0/Windows7

Not running well. It is painfully slow compared to my previous configuration: Fusion 2.06/WinXP
I honestly can't say if the problem is Fusion3 or Windows7 or a combination thereof.
What I can say is that I am reconfiguring back to Fusion 2.06/WinXP and abandoning Fusion 3 for the time being.

I too have been a great VMWare Fusion fan since I first installed Fusion 1, but I have to say that I am disappointed in this release. Cost me $40 too ! ! !

I hate to say this, but I am beyond disgusted with Fusion 3, after several years of being a very happy user - I was one of those who originally pre-ordered Fusion before it was released.

With Windows 7 on a six month old, 4GB RAM MacBook Pro running nothing other than what automatically loads on startup, this is completely unusable. It brings the entire machine to a crawl... I can click an icon on the Windows 7 desktop and wait up to three minutes for any action to occur. This is absolutely one gigantic virtual garbage can, and someone needs to do something about it. My XP install is not much better, but it is sporadically usable if I don't have too much else going on on the OS X side of the computer.

I use vmWare every single day for my business, but I can assure you that I am heading for Parallels in a hell of a hurry if this doesn't turn around quick. The silence from the vmWare team makes the whole thing that much worse. This is no way to treat professional, loyal customers.

No sooner did I hit the Send button, and I see a response from a member of the vmWare team concerning Apple preparing to release an OS update that may have something to do with this. While I am happy to see some - any - response from the guys at vmWare, and even if this is absolutely the answer, I still ask why the hell release a version that you would know didn't work on Snow Leopard if you just tried it for five minutes? A common thing I see across most of these complaints is pretty damn good hardware, new MacBook Pros, etc... not isolated occurrences on five year old systems.

All that said, I will try to hang around for the Apple update, because if this ever does get fixed, vmWare has always been THE way to go as far as I'm concerned. But this has screwed a lot of people who can't even get back to work for five or six minutes waiting for vmWare to quit once the program becomes unusable.

It's interesting that the kernel issue doesn't effect everyone. My experience with Fusion 3 and os 10.6.1 has been fine--a nice speed bump cf. 2.x. I'd love to see the explanation for this...must be hardware interactions with some mac flavors.

Hi Francis,

Have you opened a Service Request with the VMware Fusion support team? I'll have one of my support techician's post on this thread in the meantime. Recently on another thread, another customer was not happy with the performance of their VM on Fusion 3. After opening a service request and working with one of our technicians, they were able to identify some areas that could be tweaked/modified to resolve some of the issues.

I would advise that anytime you have a technical issue that is impacting the ability to use our product successfully, that you please open a case with us. Most of the time it's something we can assist with to help resolve, and there may be the occasion where we provide feedback to our engineering team to help resolve an issue in one of our future incremental updates.

Thank you for choosing VMware and we look forward to helping you.

Regards,
Carlos Romero

Fusion Support Manager, VMware

Where did you get the idea that no one from VMware reads or comments in the forum? I've been in this industry for 15 years, and I have never seen a forum/bulletin board/etc. as heavily populated by company representatives of all levels. Practically every thread contains posts from interested product engineers.

If you're going to criticize them for meaningful failings of the product, that's understandable. But to criticize them for being unresponsive seems patently absurd, and the evidence is right here.

Hello davelundgren, lugesm2, gkowalchuk and francis.carden,

I apologize these issues have been frustrating. I can certainly understand being upset with a product when it doesn't perform as expected. As Carlos mentioned, the best method for getting support for an issue you find with the Fusion 3 software is to submit a Support Request.

With that being said, I'd like to take a look at each of your issues to see if we can get the software working satisfactorily. The type of information I'd like is:

Specific details about what you find slow, including steps to reproduce if possible
Support Information: With VMware Fusion open, click on the Help menu and choose Collect Support Information. This will save a .tgz file to your Mac desktop. Please, attach that in your next reply.
As well, if you could also include what programs you have open and running in both the Mac and Windows operating systems

Looking forward to hearing from you.
