i took two machine into NLB which are running on ESX 3.5. i updraded the host to ESX 4.0. then its time to upgrade the Vmware tools and virtual hardware. i upgraded the vmware tools, machine are still in NLB and working fine. As soon as i upgrade the virtual hardware the machine go out to network and virtual network adapatar got hidden and new network adaptar come into picture. when i tried to give the same IP to new adaptar it flash the message that the IP is already assign to hidden network adaptar. please choose different IP.

how can i get the hidden network adaptar back so that my NLB start working.

Thanks

It's only a warning, not a problem. But in device manager you can select "show hidden devices" from the View menu.

Have you upgraded the VMware Tools BEFORE upgrading the hardware?

I think there are two issues here,

1. That removing the hidden adapter will clear the message that an IP address is assigned to it, and

2. That the message is only a warning - it can be ignored safely since you won't be 'plugging in' the old adapter again.

NLB is done on the vSwitch layer. The virtual NIC has no speed limit related to the physical network, it communicates as fast as the host (CPU and bus) allows it. It doesn't brake, either.

But the NLB members might be on different physical hosts. Or even at different sites.
