Logical Drive not Showing in Infrastructure client posted: Nov 5, 2009 8:08 AM

We have an HP DL 180 G5 which has (8) hard drives. (2) of the hard drives are configured as a Raid 1+0, and the other 6 are configured as a Raid 5. ESX installed successfully on the Raid 1+0 disks. We would like to add a new datastore consisting of all of the drives on the Raid 5. The problem we are having is that when we go to configuration->storage, the disks that are configured as Raid 5 never show up. When the system boots up, it clearly shows that there are two logical drives, but the second logical drive never appears in the Infrastructure client. What needs to be done to the system to see the Raid 5 disk in the infrastructure client.

Thanks

What drive controller do you have in the 185?

Did you mean E200? Did you get the BBWC option with the controller?

1,Can you goto HP raid controller BIOS and check if the second RAID is created and initialized?

2, Try recreating the second RAID

3, When you installed ESXi did you see both RAID disks?

4, Please check HP ILO for any Disk Error.

5, Boot with any bootable OS cd and see if you are able to see both RAID disks

6, Goto VI client -> configuration -> storage adaptors -> rescan

What is the capacity of the RAID 5 array? ESX(i) has a limit of slightly less than 2TB per LUN. If you have more you would need to create logical disks using the ACU CD.
