If I view a realtime report based on the Performance tab, I get results that are far off from what the guest believes is available (attached).

  1. Any ideas why this discrepancy exists?
  2. Can anyone explain the true difference between Usage and Consumed?

Hi,

I checked with my own ESX farm. It seems that the usage graph goes parallel with the active used memory graph. My opinion is, that this shows the active used memory in percent. Pls try to add the active memory value. These two graphs should be parallel. This is just a guess.

Hi,

Active memory means: memory which is active changed by the VM. Pages of the physical memory which are changed by the VM.

Swapped: This is the graph of the VMkernel swap file.

U must be careful in interpreting the graphs because using different views u see different things.
