Hello Everyone.

I have been working on my 4.0 upgrade and thought I would see how everyone else is doing and if there are any tips and tricks you all want to share.

The approach I am taking is a simple one. I am using VMotion to move my vms to a 3.5 host and then rebuilding the host I moved from to 4.0. I get a fresh clean install that way. I then power off the vms I moved, migrate them back to the host I rebuilt, upgrade the virtual hardware and power on and upgrade tools. Not a long process but painful in the sense that you have to coordinate the downtime for the virtual servers.

One thing to note that I was just informed about is to upgrade tools first than do the virtual hardware and you should not lose your previous IP settings. Dennis Baldwin from St Lukes read the upgrade docs better then me, OK, I did not read them. I have not tried this yet but will today.

If you have time please share with the group you experience with upgrading your environment.

Thanks

Rod
