How to retrieve target ESXi4 license from vMA? posted: Nov 4, 2009 7:43 AM

I have added an ESXi4 as vMA target.

From the vMA appliance I want to view the license installed on the ESXi4 target.

How do I do that?

vim-cmd vimsvc/license --show does not work from vMA.

Is there an equivalent command in vMA to traverse and look through

hostsvc/ proxysvc/ vimsvc/ help
internalsvc/ solo/ vmsvc/

of ESXi4 targets?

Thanks

vimsh (vmware-vim-cmd/vim-cmd) is only available on class ESX Service Console or unsupported ESXi busybox console.

There are no canned scripts on vMA that allow you to extract licensing information and licensing properties on vSphere 4.0 has changed significantly from VI 3.5.

You can access licensing info by looking at the licenseManager managed object which is part of the vSphere API: http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk400pubs/ReferenceGuide/vim.LicenseManager.html

If you just want to extract licensing info without writing your own script or learning how the API's work, you use either of these health check scripts:

VI 3.5 - VMware Health Check Report v0.9.4
vSphere 4.0 - VMware vSphere Health Check Report v1.2

which includes licensing information along with other pieces of information
