ACE futile performance test? posted: Nov 2, 2009 2:52 PM

So I have a client that wants to use VM ACE to deploy desktops. Mainly because of it's security features. I've been working with ESX for many years, but I'm pretty new to Workstation and Ace. I get the whole concept and I've been reading through the best practice guides. I'm pretty sure the current team of guys are building the VM's incorrectly. I was hoping to run a crazy test on my own.

Does anything think it would be futile to try and run a 3D game or watch an HD movie from an ACE session?

I've got a pretty good lab at home and I was thinking of running some tests since Workstation 7 just got released. I was thinking of building a striped down Windows 7 machine. I've got a lots of RAM / CPU and a kick a$$ video card in one of my systems. I know the new PCoIP can do all of this from a thin client, but I'm gonna see what results I can get locally.

Not sure if I understand what your question are, but you should have the same performance in an ACE instance as you have in Workstation.

The graphics is a bit limited but you should be able to watch HD Movies and play basic 3D games.

(PCoIP have nothing to do with this since PCoIP is a remote display protocol.)
