ipAddress array in GuestNicInfo is incomplete posted: Oct 27, 2009 1:20 PM

We're running ESX 3.5.0; the VM in question is running 64 bit Windows Server 2003 with current VMware tools.

I noticed today that the ipAddress array is reporting only 7 of the 11 IP aliases on this VM.

Is this a known issue? Anything I can do?

This behavior is mirrored in VIC, so let me know if I need to move this question (and if so, to where).

Is it listing them in any specific order as you're seeing them in the guest? Do you see all your virtual NIC's and their associated IPs? Is it just the remainder alias that don't display? Can you do a screen capture of the IP alias within the guest and post it? You can of course blank out the IPs if they're sensitive.

Hm, it might be some hard limitation from the ipAddress array to return maximum of 7 entries ... you might want to file an SR with VMware Support for them to confirm this. Have you tried this with any other OS?

If you really need to retrieve this information, you can use VMware VIX and extract this information by running a script within the guest OR you can probably get this using WMI calls since it's a Windows VM, unfortunately I don't have much more information about how the SDK returns this info, only VMware can provide you with that answer.

Thanks for the info, good to know it's fixed in vSphere
