Hi, sorry for the dumb question but I was wondering if it's standard practice to include Virtual Center or vCenter servers into production backups? If you don't have your vCenter server included in your backup strategy and it's the server hosting your database, how easy or hard would it be to recover the server if it had a major hardware failure? How would this effect the rest of your farm, i.e., hosts + guests?

Thanks!

The backup "question" for vCenter Server is a good point to choose a VM implementation for this server ;)
If you use a physical solution you can use traditional backup methods.

My vCenter is physical, so I scheduled daily DB backups. Don't see any need with whole vCenter imaging even with secondary DNS on it.
