Hello,
The problem: I have no sound on my guest systems. Sound card is not avalible as a resource in VMware server 2.0.
I use an new ASUS 64 bit motherboard (M4A78T-E) which is uptimized for DDR3 and 64 bit AMD CPU (quadquore). The Board has an integrated ATI sound chip (ATI 791A). Futher specifics:

Host: Windows 2003 (64 bit) or host Ubuntu 9.04 (64bit)

  • sound and drives works fine in either environment
VMserver 2.0
  • No sound card avalible to connect (add hardware console)
Guest: Windows XP professional of windows 7
  • sound card not available
  • just once at the initial opening of windows 7 I had sound. Reboot and it was gone. Removed and reinstalled VMware tools, did not help.

To me it seems that VMware is not able to detect the sound card and therefore is not able to pass on the resoursce. Can you fix this or give a hint in solving the problem.

Thanks
Peter
