There's no explicit mention of the "lost mouse focus+Snow Leopard" issue in the 2.0.6 Release Notes. The Notes state that over 20 bugs are fixed but the "Resolved Issues" section lists only 5 bugs. Earlier threads in this forum suggested that the root cause of this bug had been found and that the fix was going to be in the next release.

Can anyone confirm whether this really annoying bug is fixed in 2.0.6?

Thanks for the lightning-fast confirmation! That's very promising. Any impressions about stability or performance of 2.0.6 compared to 2.0.5 yet?

I'm using 2.0.6 BETA, and i've problems with vmtools...

1 or 2 time in a working day, it crashes, and it's impossible make copy/paste from Mac to' Win and viceversa!

In 2.0.5 i have not this problem, that was present in 2.0.2....

The 2.0.6 FINAL, it's different to the BETA? The VMtools version is?
Thanks...

EDIT- the SAME ISSUE is present in 2 imac , 1 with Ati, 1 with nVidia...

I used the 2.0.6 beta and was encouraged that the pointer issues were fixed and the speed seemed to have picked up a bit. I just installed the non-beta 2.0.6 and things are back to slooow again. Launching apps seems to take forever. Once they are launched, the responsiveness within the app seems reasonable, although still kind of like a pre-Pentium PC. Time will tell, but I'm not sure that build 196839 is actually better than 193216.

One thing that seems fixed is when in Unity mode, there are no longer multiple icons per application that appear on the dock. I was getting two Explorer icons and two Word icons, each labeled slightly differently, e.g., "Microsoft Office Word - WinXP 2" and "Microsoft Office Word - WinXP 3".

I simply don't understand why VMware can't figure out what is making Fusion so slow.

I'm getting the following errors when upgrading from 2.0.4 to 2.0.6. I'm running the latest Snow Leopard on my Mac.

"/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/kexts/vmmon.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.

"/System/Library/Extensions/DisplayLinkDriver.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.

I have tried deleting these two files, rebooting, but I still cannot get the Install to complete.

Any help?

I've read the release notes but cannot see if this is classed by VMWare as stable support for Snow Leopard? (stable 32-bit kernel specifically, I DONT CARE ABOUT 64-BIT SUPPORT)

I'm one of the 10.5.8 Mac users eagerly awaiting VMWare to announce stable 32-bit kernel support for Snow Leopard so I can upgrade my OS and upgrade VMWare Fusion as well as this is a work machine and I don't want to do it prematurely and have issues with my VMs.

Can someone at VMWare also either point me to a page or reply with the best way to upgrade the OS and VMWare fusion... i.e., in what order to do things for a nice stable VMWare fusion & Snow leopard upgrade (with existing VMs)? I would assume the upgrade of fusion first and THEN snow leopard?

Many Thanks,

    • Dan.

tpau17: you inspired me. After running the BETA 2.0.6b1, and the finished 2.0.6, I was really dissatisfied with the performance of Fusion, so I just downgraded to 2.0.5. So far, it is performing as it did under OS X 10.5.x; I am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.1.

Also, even though I uninstalled 2.0.6 before re-installing 2.0.5, when I went to install the VMWare Tools under 2.0.5, it saw that there was a newer version of the Tools installed, and I opted to keep the newer VMWare Tools for now. I also found that I had to choose "Cancel VMWare Tools Installation" from the Virtual Machine menu, even though no installer was apparently running.

I'll keep you posted if I have any problems with 2.0.5 under 10.6.1.

Hopefully, VMWare will resolve the sluggish performance issues with 2.0.6, and I'll be patient. So long as I don't have any problems with 2.0.5, I'll keep running it, as it performs as I expect it to -- which means that running Fusion is usably responsive on startup, shutdown, and resume from suspend.

There's a better alternative to downgrading to Fusion v2.0.5: see the thread "exremely slow going with Fusion/Win XP and Mac."

My performance issues under 10.6.1 were resolved by d/l'ing and installing the stand-alone 10.6.1 Update. I installed it over the Software Update version of 10.6.1. I then uninstalled Fusion v2.0.5 and installed v2.0.6. Now, Fusion's performance is at least as good as it was running v2.0.5 under 10.5.x.

scottmk: sorry, but what is d/l'ing? I guess it's "downloading" now that I ask... But what can you do if you've already installed 10.6.1?

Download the stand-alone upgrade and then install it over the Software Update version of 10.6.1.

It worked for me. Fusion v2.0.6 is now performing as v2.0.5 did under 10.5.x.
