Hi,

Can someone tell me what kind of licensing do I need in order to do a P2V cold migration?

Thanks

doing Coldclones is a procedure - not a product.

You do not need a license at all - the starter edition of Converter 3.0.3 is sufficient.

You can read how to create a coldclone CD at boot-land.net or on my site - see

VmWare Converter Standalone is free. While in case of Windows you should read your EULA.

You need a vCenter license to use the VMware branded version of a Cold Clone disc:

For cold cloning with the Converter Boot CD, the source physical machine must have at least 264 MB of memory. VMware recommends 364 MB of memory. The Converter Boot CD ISO is available from:

vCenter 2.5 - http://www.vmware.com/download/download.do?downloadGroup=VC250U4

vSphere - http://www.vmware.com/download/download.do?downloadGroup=VC24

Login with a username that is associated with the VMware vCenter Server license

Accept the EULA

Download the "VMware vCenter Converter BootCD for vCenter Server" ZIP File

Once the download has completed, write the ISO to a disc and then boot the system from the disc itself.

Thanks Ian.

I downloaded the zip file from here - vCenter Server as a Zip file - English only version

The coldclone ISO is 231MB.....Should easily fit on CD-R.

Is it just me or has anyone else had problems burning this image to a CD-R?

I was able to burn it to DVD-R however I'm getting an error when I try to burn it to CD-R!!

I need this on CD-R to cold migrate an old server. Anyone come across this? I got a couple of guys in my team to try this & they got the same error!

I have used both ISO Buster and Nero to write the coldclone.iso to a CD-R for booting purposes. However, most of the time I used a DVD-R because that's the media I have available to me.

The two links to the downloads no longer work.  Are there new links?
