Can't provision VM template with customization posted: Sep 6, 2009 9:20 AM

I know this is a simple task, but can't figure what is the problem. We have a simple single DRS cluster (enable) with 5 esx 3.5 U4 hosts. Each hosts have 4 NIC, 2 for S.C. and vmotion, and 2 for VM guests. I have setup vswitch 0 so that the both S.C. and vmotion has 2 NIC, one actual, one on stand by. From what I can tell, DNS is working, and all interface is pingable (using both ping and vmkping) from other hosts. I have no problem cloning a XP VM template. However, when I try to deploy the same XP template and add customization to its (sysprep, etc), it clone without issue, but when it is time for the customization (95% on the progress bar), it fail and say "failed to connect to host" and everything roll back.

I am sure it is probably something simple, but I can't seem to find it. Any though?

During deploying are you also using VMotion?
Do you loose the ping on the ESX?

I suggest to use both NIC in active mode: using default teaming policy one NIC will be used by SC and the other by VMotion.
